Dune 2 Is The ‘End’ Of Modern Cinema
It took a few weeks and about 5 viewings of Dune Part Two but these are just some of my thoughts on the film. This is not a critical analysis, I just wanted to talk for a little bit so if you enjoyed Dune 2 and find any value in this video, that's all I can ask for.

I Was Wrong About Anime After Blue Eye Samurai

Usually, art doesn’t have to tell you why its good, it just kinda shows you. Through an enchanting hum of colors and sequences, you may feel elevated, in ways that only good art seems to understand. It doesn’t have to take much, and sometimes just a little will do its job; that’s kind of the point isn’t it? To be moved unexpectedly. This is how Blue Eye Samurai moved me unexpectedly. Enjoy! #bl...

Andor's Historic 11th Hour For Star Wars

During episode 11 of Andor we are treated to the very moment at which Luthen and Saw agree to war on the Empire. This is a moment of immense weight and the way it was handled was subtle and wonderful. I cannot stop thinking about this scene, and how important it is to.... everything. So, I had to talk about it. Luthen and Saw are two keystones to the rebellion against the Empire, and if nothing...
We All Miss A Simpler Indiana Jones

Indiana Jones is one of my favorite fictional characters in cinematic history, and for good reason: his movies gave me a sense of adventure and were so cathartic for the simplest reasons. Good, honest fun and a commitment to gritty spirits, there's no other trilogy of films like it, but thats where it also has come up short in its recent adaptations. This video is just a love letter to his orig...
The Mandalorian’s Storytelling Is Dangerously Outdated

The Mandalorian Season 3 is what happens when a show is more interested in staying easily marketable than writing a compelling and serious narrative about a character who deserved to be taken seriously. How do you really feel? 😂
Dune together with Oppenheimer IS the new modern cinema. Old blockbuster's schemes were raped and overused during Marvel era so much it stopped working at all. And now we are having with huge, meditative, deep meaning, visual grandeur stories that attract the audience. It may be the dawn of new beautiful age in cinema art.
“He speaks in platitudes.” Hehe oh wait you haven’t read the book.
Villeneuve trained on desert color grading on Sicario.
12:37 dude really went "I'm not the same person I was one movie ago"
The glazing was insane😂
visually gorgeous, but very far to be a masterpiece. its too boring. no intensity and overall too exhausting to watch. the director style is too boring to watch.
this is some good shit
I've spent a large amount of time with the anime/mange medium. Give some of the classics a try like death note (I only consider the first 24 episodes to be part of the story), full metal alchemist brotherhood, and vineland saga. Some other non-anime animated series I liked were Castlevania, Arcane, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunner.
i’m not a fan of marvel films at all, but this trilogy stole my heart
I love the reactor/furnace metaphor for anakin and his heart.
I’m glad you like it!
Thank you for describing with words what i want to say about this movie but i can't. Simply a MASTERPIECE.
Why do people have a religious experience watching this movie?
I liked this movie so much i bought it. Thats saying something
I am no cinema fan. The first time I saw Dune Part Two was the first time I understood why cinema was an art and not a distraction. I saw great movies as the whole LotR trilogy, but none of them moved me in the same way Dune moved me.
Did you have sex with this movie?
Every copy of the book "Dune" includes this comment from science-fiction master Arthur C. Clarke: "I know of nothing comparable to it except 'The Lord of the Rings.'" Same clearly goes for the film versions now.
we are so back
I’ve never witnessed a score be so closely attached to the sound design and visual storytelling of a film. I’m a composer/producer and my initial epiphany from Dune part II was in relation to the ground breaking, sound immersive, & overwhelmingly emotional music of Hans Zimmer. The 2nd & 3rd time I felt the visuals and story in a much stronger light. But not only is this a landmark in cinematic & sci-fi history, but in film music history. Sounds that transport you to the fictional universe and utterly sterilize your perception of what music for cinema & visual storytelling can be. Not only has Dennis and the brilliant team behind this film have set the bar for cinematic storytelling, but so has Hans & his team for every living breathing composer out there. I felt like a kid again in the theatre, something about the main love theme intimately sparked something deep & personal for me. I will never forget this experience, I’ll have to show it to my future children and say “yep, dad was there in the cinema when it first came out”
I'm still just mad that the movies weren't titled "Dune" and "More Dune" TBH.
movie sucked
Sorry, the opening dialogue is a little bit pretentious. Maybe that is on purpose for effect. But it distracts and feels forced.
🧐👍
Brother you are either paid or full blown deluded to say this is one of the best movies of all time. What do you even watch usually?
More than you
@@SpacemanSR All your comments to all of the people who called this video pretentious are the same, you don't address them because you don't have an argumentative leg to stand on. At no point do you explain why this movie is so good, just that you are creaming all over it for unexplained reasons 🤣🤣
Your reading comprehension is in the gutter I’d worry more about watching other content if you couldn’t even decipher what I listed out clearly in the video. Good luck!
♥
Almost perfect... save that one glaring and unfortunate casting error. I could feel the wokeness oozing off of her flat and singular dimensional performance... before I even looked to find out who she is. (hint if you don't know who she is, don't look now) Truly unfortunate. Oh and there is also one shot of a bag she puts down that has the current earth based plastic clips on it such as found on modern day packs. Took me out of the otherwise impeccable production design.
oof hurts almost to watch this optimism now...
I was so naiive
@@SpacemanSR We were
This is a crap film. Villeneuve really achieved something with both Arrival and BR2049. OMG did he drop the ball with Dune. And Chris Nolan is a laughing stock now btw after Oppenheimer. In the meantime his brother Jon has redeemed himself with Fallout after the mess of Westworld.
A lot of big words. Dune 2 was a ultimately a good movie in a desert. Sadly not such a great movie all on itself. A competent movie nonetheless. that left me, a long time reader of the original books, satisfied but not awed. Some elements were excellent depicted, the whole material in itself was thoroughly and with enough grace treated, there are layers into the execution that warrant discussion, but the movie didn't do enough to say something in particular, and in that regard missed the chance to be a real masterpiece. I think Blade Runner 2049 suffered from the same problem. Let's hope that Villeneuve will not miss future chances to do that, create the masterpiece that he saw in his dreams but somehow held back.
Dude... honestly this essay is just pretentious salivating.
thats my middle name so buckle up pal
@SpacemanSR thanks for taking time to reply:) I wish you all the best and also I think I can relate to such extreme fanfare. For example, I think my review of Tim Burtons "Batman Returns" would be similar:) it's nice to love a piece of art, it's a good feeling
This is one of those things, like Start Wars, where I just don't get what everyone is on about. I completely fail to see what's good about this movie. I just felt like I'd been sitting for a while, observing something unremarkable. I did enjoy the first part, but the second completely missed the mark for me. The whole movie felt like a sequence of clips where the character does something over a long span of time to fast forward to a point in time where some goal has been achieved. At no point did it connect with me in any way - not the plot, not the characters. And that's with me forcing myself to suspend my disbelief - the world building doesn't do that for me at all.
The movie, as good cinematically as it was, is only a take, a version, a shadow of the vision Frank Herbert wrote into existence. I felt the movie was woefully inadequate compared to the book, the source of its genius seemed ignored by the director. His choices reflected current trends of our society, and belittled the message Frank Herbert conveyed in his writings.
That comparison to New Phyrexia is actually pretty damn fitting, with the Baron’s oil vat and all the seemingly oil-like facepaint. You reckon we’ll ever get a Universes Beyond: Dune set?
Yeah i wasnt too bothered for this film either.
Great phantasy movie, back to reality now...
to me the film called mandy is the best ever art hoyse film ever made
it was great at times but it was confusing amd alittle soap operanish at times i did read tbe books by the way i enjoyed it overall loved the esthetics
A very pretentious style of "review" for a series simply better than most of modern tv shows. It is far from a masterpice. It is just better than the junk we got used to. And now we throw these loud words around, as if the series was some kind of revelation. For anyone who watches anything more complex than pop culture movies and mainstream media, the series is just OK
I’d like to believe while reading the books imagination provides the most powerful visuals.
I've only recently found this channel, but now I'm enthralled. I really enjoy your narrations and stories/thoughts.
Thank you so much! I appreciate you stopping by, I hope you like the content 🙏🏻
The difference in Andor is that when I worked my old job in a semiconductor fab I felt exactly like I was working for the empire within the show.
I really loved this show. Thanks for sharing an intriguing point of view, very well expressed.
“Dune 2 is the “end” of modern cinema.” Promise?
Loved this video! I wanna give a small suggestion: when editing all cinemascope footage like this, make your actual video fit that aspect ratio. That way it fills the player on youtube on the website and on mobile, making the video feel grander. Right now, unless I fullscreen, the footage is in a big black box instead of filling the frame. Great video, loved all your thoughts!
still, the movie misses the surrealism and mysticism that makes the dream and melange themes work well
Next to Rouge One, it’s easily the best SW property in the last 40 yrs
New Phyrexia!
Every once in a while, I come back to this video to understand how to articulate my thoughts better. What a great presentation!
Ehhhh, it was fine ya'll chill. Blade Runner 2049 alone was much much stronger. And that's only talking about Villeneuve. You'd be surprised how much great cinema happens outside of 100+ million dollar blockbusters. The vast majority of it in fact
Translation of the first 5 minutes: "man this movie is so cool I dont even know where to begin"
